Subang Airport (Subang Skypark): closer to the city, but not to be confused with KLIA

What Subang Airport is

Subang Airport's official name is Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, code SZB, located in the Subang area of Selangor. It was once Kuala Lumpur's main international airport. When KLIA opened, most international flights moved there, and Subang now focuses on domestic and regional routes.

Many people call it Subang Skypark, after the Skypark Terminal that passengers use today. On tickets, booking sites and in everyday conversation, "Subang", "Skypark" and "SZB" usually all mean the same place.

The best-known airline here is Firefly, which uses Subang as its main base and flies to domestic destinations such as Penang as well as some regional points. Other airlines have also started or adjusted services at Subang in recent years, so check the airlines' official information for current carriers and routes.

Subang Airport vs KLIA

If you are flying in from abroad, you will almost always land at KLIA — for its two terminals, see KLIA Terminal 1 vs Terminal 2. Subang is more common for short domestic hops and a handful of regional flights.

Do not book or head to the wrong airport

Booking sites often list both Subang and KLIA under "Kuala Lumpur", so flights from both appear side by side in search results. A few ways to avoid mistakes:

• Check the three-letter code: SZB is Subang, KUL is KLIA. Look before you book and again before check-in.
• Give your driver the flight number: saying just "KL airport" is easily taken to mean KLIA, and the two airports are tens of kilometres apart.
• Allow plenty of time for self-transfers: if you arrive internationally at KLIA and fly domestically from Subang (or vice versa), you will need to drive between the two. That usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic, plus immigration, baggage and a fresh check-in — so leave a generous gap, ideally not a tight same-day connection.
• Double-check before departure: airlines occasionally change routes and airports, so confirm in the airline app or website the day before.

Getting from Subang Airport to the city

Subang is close to town, so the drive in is usually fairly short. The common options are:

• Grab and other e-hailing: the most common choice. Follow the app to the pickup point; expect a wait at peak times.
• Taxi: taxis are generally available at the airport; check fares and the pickup point on site.
• Private transfer: suits travellers with lots of luggage, larger groups, elderly relatives or children, or anyone heading straight on to another city.
• Rail: the airport's rail connection has changed in recent years, so check the latest status before you travel rather than relying on older guides.

When you might use Subang

• Short domestic flights: for example to and from Penang, flying from Subang saves the trip out to KLIA. Penang is also reachable by road — compare options in Kuala Lumpur to Penang.
• Staying on the west side of KL: if your hotel is in Petaling Jaya or Subang Jaya, Subang is often the nearer airport.
• Short business trips: for same-day domestic trips, a small airport means quicker arrivals and departures, with less queuing and walking.
